Provence day trip from Nice with a private driver

Inland Provence is further from Nice than most maps suggest: the Gorges du Verdon, the Luberon and Aix-en-Provence each mean around two hours or more of driving each way. A private van turns that distance into a comfortable day, with one well-chosen region instead of a rushed list.

  • Honest driving times
  • One region per day
  • Pickup in the Nice area
  • Quote for your day

Our advice: do not try to combine the Verdon and the Luberon in one day. Together they add up to more time in the van than on your feet. Choose one, and keep the other for another day.

Aix is further away than Moustiers but quicker to reach, because most of the way is motorway. The Verdon roads are the opposite: shorter on the map, but winding mountain roads where the pace drops. These are measured drive times; allow more in summer and on weekends.

Planning the day

A long day, made comfortable

Count on ten hours or more door to door for the Verdon or the Luberon, and around nine for Aix-en-Provence. An early start, around 8 a.m., gives you time at each stop and brings you back to the coast in the early evening.

Your driver stays with you all day. You decide how long to spend at each stop, where to have lunch and when to head home, and the van is waiting whenever you are ready. Bags, jackets and shopping stay on board.

The roads around the Gorges du Verdon are narrow and winding. If anyone in your group is sensitive to car sickness, tell us: we plan more frequent stops and a calmer pace on the mountain sections.

Provence day trip questions

Is a Provence day trip worth it from Nice?

Yes, if you choose one region and accept around four to five hours of driving in total. For a shorter day, the hill villages behind Nice, like Saint-Paul-de-Vence, give a taste of Provence closer to the coast.

Can we visit a winery on the way?

Yes. Tell us which area interests you and we plan the stop. Tastings are booked directly with the estate.

Can we stay overnight and return the next day?

Yes, as a two-day trip quoted on request. It is the most relaxed way to see both the Verdon and the Luberon.

What happens if it rains?

Aix-en-Provence and its museums make a good wet-weather plan. Your driver can switch the route in the morning.

Can we start from Cannes or Antibes instead of Nice?

Yes. Pickups anywhere in our area are possible. From Cannes or Antibes the drive west to Provence is shorter, and the route is adjusted in your quote.

When are the lavender fields in flower?

Usually from late June to mid-July on the Valensole plateau, depending on the weather that year. Outside that window the fields are green or harvested, but the villages and the Verdon are still worth the trip.

Is the trip suitable for young children?

Yes, with a slower plan. Child seats are available on request, and we build in more stops on a long drive. For small children, a shorter region such as Castellane and the upper Verdon is often the better choice.
